What Are ADA Compliant Signs?

ADA-Compliant-Sign-Braille

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signage is used to identify rooms and spaces while meeting ADA requirements. These signs are generally made of acrylic, wood, or metal and can include images, text, and contracted braille lettering to meet the needs of any user. ADA signage is always made with easy-to-read compliant and simple typefaces, have non-glare and high contrast (dark to light) backgrounds and characters, and can include any accessibility symbols for mobility and hearing impairments, as needed. These signs are installed adjacent to the door to which the information displayed is referring.

Double-Sided Tape

Applying double-sided tape to the back of your sign allows you to stick it directly to most surfaces. This eliminates the need for holes to be drilled into walls, while also completely supporting your sign. Double-sided tape is generally recommended for small plastic opaque signage.

Standoffs

Standoffs give dimension to your signage by taking it off the wall slightly. This is a perfect look for a professional setting with a high end look. Standoffs are screw mounted onto the walls and then the sign face is placed on them and a cap is screwed on, to hold it in place. Standoffs are generally recommended for interior panel-based signage.

Exterior Screws

Using exterior screws is a guaranteed way of making sure your sign doesn’t come down unless you intend for it to. There are several different type of screws that can be used, including, drywall screws with anchors, stainless steel screws, and ceramic coated screws. Alternatively, the use of tamper proof screws prevents the removal of a sign without a special tool.
